We would love to know how you both met:
Michael had recently moved to Melbourne from Canberra and I had returned from a holiday in Europe and by chance in August 2011, we were introduced by a mutual friend while we were out during the evening. From that evening even though we weren’t necessarily looking for a partner Michael who was very quiet and shy, would magically appear every weekend at the same locations that I was at. Our friendship swiftly changed into love and the rest is history!
Tell us about the beginning of your relationship and were there any challenges:
There is a saying “When you least expect it, love will come find you and this is exactly what happened to us both. Our relationship started with some challenges as Michael resided in the city sharing with a close friend, and I lived in the outer suburbs of Melbourne as I cared for my elderly grandmother. During the first five years we were very connected and were keen to move in together, however this was not a viable option as my grandmother was becoming more dependant on me caring for her. Thankfully Michael commuted to the suburbs several times during the week and again on the weekends to spend time with my Gran and I. This challenge showed that we had formed a special relationship and a bond based on love, sharing beliefs, patience and experiences. After being together a year in 2012 we travelled with my grandmother back to London and Paris for her “final trip”. This was a very beautiful and memorable time where we had produced deep and lifelong memories together. At this moment in my life I knew that I had met the one that I was meant to spend the rest of my life with. During our first five years Michael had shown love, dedication and patience and this gave me an understanding that together we could face any of life’s challenges
Let us have a sneak peak of your proposal:
Early in the morning Daniel was sitting at the end of the bed putting his shoes on. It was Daniels 30th Birthday and we had guests coming from interstate for the birthday celebrations. We also were scheduled to fly out to Bali the next day, so I was somewhat deprived of time. Even though we were running short of time, I dropped to one knee and asked Daniel to marry me. Daniel said ‘yes’ and then I was quick to remind him that we were late for the airport. A moment to always treasure.
What was the date of your Big Day, your beautiful wedding:
We were married on Friday April 5th, 2019 and happily started our life together as a married couple.
What does marriage mean to you:
In one word Marriage means ‘forever’. It is truly the greatest commitment that you can give to your partner. It is a promise to love forever, to always work as a team and to listen to each other. True love is a pretty amazing feeling and marriage creates the bond to experience life with your ‘other’ everyday, for the rest of your life.
Where was the location of the wedding:
Metropolis Events, Southbank
Tell us about the planning of your wedding day, and were there any unexpected surprises:
Both Michael and myself manage large companies and are used to working with intricate projects and our first thought was, this will lbe easy. We shortly discovered that whilst working full time and enjoying life and planning a wedding is a difficult combination to balance. We were surprised with the magnitude of preparation for the wedding. Our solution was to gather a huge excel file that consisted of a long list of tabs to keep track of all of our wedding information, it was definitely a must have! In hindsight we should have connected with a wedding planner to take care of some of the logistical details, particularly in the weeks leading up to the wedding. As a couple we learnt to worry about the things that we could control and to remember that our day was about our love. Our wedding ran smoothly so there were no unexpected surprises except the feeling of love was like no other experience in our lives.
What colour themes were used in the wedding:
Navy Blue, White, Black and Green
Was there any tradition introduced into your wedding, “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue”:
Yes, we wanted our grandparents who passed to be remembered and celebrated throughout the day and during our ceremony. Daniel had a beautiful delicate pin that held a photo of his grandmother on the inside of his jacket. We included beautiful remembrance candles that were lit in memoriam during the ceremony to connect and remember. We didn’t have the traditional first dance, as we felt it didn’t represent us as a couple, so we broke tradition and invited everyone onto the dance floor together. The other way we broke tradition was that we were together the night before the wedding commencing celebrations with some of the wedding party. On the day of the wedding we had our immediate family and all of the wedding party sharing laughter, and of course champagne.
What was the theme of your wedding, and how did you decide this:
We decided early on that our wedding would be true to who were are as a couple so our wedding theme was Modern Chic.
Your wedding was very beautiful, where did you gather inspiration from:
Together we spent countless hours on google, Instagram, Pinterest, and directories which provided lots of inspiration. We knew that our wedding had to represent an experience that was unique to ‘us as a couple’. Daniel worked alongside the vendors and suppliers to bring our dream wedding to life. My area of expertise was in music so I sorted the music and technical issues to encompass magic and fantasy.
What were some of your favourite moments in the wedding with either your partner, family or friends:
There were so many beautiful moments during the wedding. When our parents proudly and traditionally walked us down the aisle, this moment in time will be forever treasured by both of us, and all that attended. We were reminded of the gift of love from our parents who love us unconditionally.
Who was the photographer for your wedding:
Corey Wright was our photographer. Corey and his team were passionate about equality and were creative and fun capturing our big day. The images are beautiful and represent a story of our wedding day, we were so happy to work with such a dedicated team.
We would love to know what your playlist was:
Entrance song: Only the beginning of the adventure – The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe soundtrack
Exit song: Love Today – Mika
Reception entry song: Euphoria – Loreen
Did you go away for a Honeymoon, if so where was the location:
After a few days from the wedding we jetted off for a memorable six weeks in Europe. The locations travelled were The Netherlands. Denmark, Italy, Greece and England. The honeymoon was spectacular with all the romantic destinations capturing forever memories.
What words of support could you say to couples taking the journey of marriage:
The most beautiful thing in life is love and to be loved in return. When marrying remember why you are getting married and embed this in your thoughts. Your big day is your day and it’s all about celebrating the love you both share. By planning the whole day from the ceremony to the reception, you need to make sure that you create time for you both to be fully in the moment, and to capture lifelong memories. By taking yourself away for ten minutes of the reception, to stop and observe, truly captures tingling and precious moments. Seeing the expressions of love from your family and friends makes the whole effort of wedding preparation totally worth it. These moments will forever be with you.
